    Description

    Our client is a 417-bed, full-service hospital providing the residents of Miami-Dade County with 24-hour comprehensive medical, trauma, surgical, behavioral health and diagnostic services, along with a wide range of patient and community services.     The Director of Surgical Services Department leads the perioperative team by focusing on safe patient care while effectively managing operations. The Director Surgical Services has 24/7 responsibility for their departments.

    Major Responsibilities:
    Service

    • Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow through and communication.
    • Actively participates in service, departmental and hospital wide committees as assigned, providing ongoing communication to those one represents.
    • Advances the customer experience in Surgical Services.

    People

    • Coaches subordinates providing feedback; constructive critique of work; facilitates individual development plan; and documents their job performance.
    • Adheres to all Human Resource policies.
    • Effectively communicates departmental, organization and industry information to staff.
    • Facilitates evidence based employee engagement practices.
    • Effectively builds strong relationships and networks to deliver upon organizational and department goals.
    • Participate in employee and patient roundingIdentifies and mentor potential future leaders

    Quality

    • Enforces standards of care for surgical services and develops processes to measure and ensure consistent compliance.
    • Develops, implements, and evaluates an ongoing surgical services program which assures quality patient care consistent with the Hospital mission.
    • Monitors compliance with regulatory, accrediting and hospital policy, environmental, patient, and personnel safety
    • Oversees a PI program that consistently monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care.
    • Responsible for department’s operational excellence by ensuring delivery of quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
    • Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Blood borne and Airborne Pathogens.
    • Enforces safe procedural site and patient verification policy
    • Monitors and responds to quality event reporting

    Finance

    • Supports new program strategies and/or program enhancements which would expand patient services.
    • Develops, prioritizes and defends a capital equipment requests.
    • Is responsible for the fiscal management of department; assures proper utilization of organization’s financial resources.

    Growth

    • Advances the growth agenda for Surgical Services.
    • Strives to become the OR of Choice for physicians, patients, staff, and payers in the community they serve

    Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree required
    • Master's degree MHA, MSN, MBA, or related field preferred
    • 3+ years of experience in Surgical Services, preferably OR nursing required
    • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role preferred
    • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience

    Licenses, Certifications, & Training:

    • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state in which he or she practices, in accordance with law and regulation required
    • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) preferred
    • Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) preferred

    General Comments

    Additional Info:

     

    • 14 OR’s in main & 1 minor room.  Going to 18 OR’s
    • 50-60 cases a day
    • Do a lot of burns.  Part of that burn is smaller burn cases that require patients to be
    • Level 1 trauma.  Lot of ortho trauma.  Lot of robots there – 2 XI & 1 SI

     

    Challenges & Other Notes:

    • Going from 14 to 18 OR’s, going from 1 minor to 2 minor rooms.  Not remodeling other 14.  Not that old.  They are divided into 2 groups.
    • Added another robot.  Up to 6 XI’s.  250 month cases
    • Staffing a challenge, but have a lot of new initiatives.  Have Periop class.  Graduated 8 RN’s from Periop 101 program.  Started new class in June with 5 new candidates.  They partner up with Miami Dade Community college.  Have 4 students right now going thru practicum on campus.  Start hiring new OR techs.  It is an associate tech school
    • Manager – over OR, 2 CNC’s, one is newer
    • Director over OR, OR is so busy.  Rapid fast-paced OR, usually OR Director mainly focused on OR & she focused on everything, eventually when fully complemented individual will expand role, all other areas have managers that handle well
    • Would have just the main OR & then overseeing the trauma program, the burn program within the OR.  The Admin Director will keep anesthesia tech services all the other ancillary depts. (pre-op, pacu, endo)

    Salary Range: 130K - 160K BASED OFF YEARS OF EXP

    **Up To 15% bonus annual bonus, based on performance KPI’s

    Sign On Bonus:  10K
