Description
My client, a midsized hospital located in Southern VA near the NC border, has a need for a Director of Surgical Services to join their team. We need candidates with previous director experience at a similar size facility. This is not a good fit for a first time OR director, there is simply too much complexity.
The Director of Surgical Services has direct line authority for the Operating Rooms, Pre-Op Services, Same Day Surgery Unit, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, and the hospital’s Central Sterilization service. There are roughly 60 staff within the areas of responsibility. The department includes 11 operational ORs and typically runs 4-6 rooms daily which perform between 350 and 450 cases per month across a range of surgical specialties. The director serves as the primary liaison with the contracted anesthesia service, performing quality oversight and coordination with the service as well as the primary liaison with the Surgical Executive Committee which is responsible for medical oversight of surgical practice within the hospital. Last, the director, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, is primary lead for development and execution of action plans to grow the business and continuously improve quality measures across the surgical services department.
Currently we do the following surgeries:
- Orthopedics
- General
- ENT
- GYN
- Urology
- Ophthalmology
- Ortho Spine
- Thoracic
- Vascular
There are approximately 52 FTEs.
