Description
We are searching for a DIRECTOR OF SURGICAL SERVICES for a 129 beds acute care hospital located in coastal Oregon.
COMPENSATION
Base Salary - $120,000 to $175,000
POSITION SUMMARY
Collaborates with and supports the Chief Nursing Officer to accomplish the objectives of the Surgical Services Division and overall strategic plan of the hospital. Directs the day-to-day operation of the division to ensure effective leadership, staff productivity, sound employee relations, responsible fiscal practices, and efficient, safe, effective, high-quality patient care.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluates the process and effectiveness of overall patient care in the division in collaboration with unit managers and supervisors.
Assists managers/supervisors in establishment of departmental goals for service, patient care, and patient safety.
Monitors progress towards established goals and reports to CNO
Oversees development, progress towards, and reporting of quality measures for individual units and division as a whole
Works with managers and CNO to ensure regulatory, licensing, and accreditation requirements related to patient care and documentation are being met. Assists in formulation of remediation plans, when indicated
Participates in development of division/department policies and procedures.
Works cooperatively with Executive Team and other hospital directors and managers to integrate activities of individual Surgical Services units into a high-functioning whole and remove barriers to effective performance.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with peers, staff, physicians, anesthesia and other members of the health care team
Rounds on units regularly and maintains “open door policy” to foster constructive communication with staff
Advocates for and supports Surgical Services managers/supervisors.
Selects, trains, coaches, supports, and evaluates PCS managers.
Establishes performance objectives, assessment measures, and improvement plans for managers/supervisors.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
Licensed as Registered Nurse in the state of Oregon or eligibility.
Master’s degree in nursing or health-related field
Bachelor’s degree in nursing
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or must be obtained by the last day of the month after the 60-day grace period.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 8 years clinical experience in an acute care hospital in the last 10 years
Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in surgery or surgical services
Minimum 3 years managerial experience in surgery or surgical services
Experience in project management and organizational development preferred.
Lean experience preferred.
